Seville's Maria Luisa Park

Located between the river and the Plaza de España, the Maria Luisa Park is a verdant wonderland. Long shaded vistas bisect the large park, which it is important to note is highly useable but doesn't include any turf that I could find. Instead, paths, alleys, trellises, benches, fountains and basins populate the gardens, built for the 1929 exhibition. We walked through here tonight after a second visit to the Plaza de España (much better with a partly sunny sky as the sun's rays bring the brick buildings to life). There is a lovely shaggyness to the Maria Luisa park...and the density of planting probably couldn't be tolerated in the states..too many places for the creeps to potentially hide. I sometimes wonder how it affects us to live in a culture where risk and danger are removed from everyday living. I think we could learn to loosen up a little after experiencing this beautiful spot.
