Madrid Rio Project...wow!

Once upon a time there was a river that ran through a big city. Every so often it flooded its banks. Eventually it was determined that it should be channelized and dammed to control the flow of the water. Oh yeah, and a highway was built next to it and the city turned its back from one of its greatest assets. Okay, this story has been repeated countless times. But in Madrid they have done something about it in a VERY BIG way! Ten kilometers of highway have been dropped into a tunnel and topped with a linear park designed by West 8 Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. I won't say much other than "wow"...and let some of the nearly 300 pictures I took over the course of an afternoon and morning fill in the blanks.

  1. Love the pictures of the wooden Richter play equipment! Not sure if you know, Nord, but we're using them at the Adventure Playground project in Irvine. I'm glad someone's seen their work in person now (and it looks like your family definitely approved of it!).
